Artist Statement: STAGE 1 - Glamorizing the Unglamorous

This Exhibition (in Process) is an evocative exploration of the unseen artistry within self-preservation and creation, often obscured by societal dismissal and layers of oppressive gazes. Through an immersive installation featuring large sequin fabric, body sculpture, wearable fashion armor, experimental video, and movement practices, the exhibition transcends literal adornment and dress. Never-ending sequins become a metaphor for the countless facets of identity we meticulously weave, while sculptural garments represent the emotional and spiritual armor donned daily against external pressures. Experimental video and movement amplify these dynamic processes of self-shaping, exposing the performative acts of identity often demanded. As a music producer, RYAT translates sonic narratives into a visual symphony, inviting viewers to experience the profound "fem labor" involved in defining and protecting the self amidst pervasive societal expectations, revealing the inherent art in our ongoing evolution.

Below is a Private in Process Gallery Party, where RYAT performed and shared the work in Progress. If interested in developing this final piece for Instillation, please contact Chris@moksastudios.com
